Another Cake!

So, I like to take pictures of my cakes from the beginning to the end so I can see the process. I guess it makes me more grateful for the end or something. Anyway - this cake was made for Brent's cousin's daughter, Emma Pearl Lee. I found the mermaid ideas out of Lydia's "That's not my Mermaid" book from Usborne Books. The oyster came together from pieces that were cut out from the mermaid and left over. I was relieved that it somewhat resembled an oyster!

Since I really can't do people very well, I was glad to find a mermaid with such a simple face!

Of course I forgot to put the "pearl" (an easter malted egg) in the oyster before I took the picture. Oh well.

Peek-a-Boo!

Lydia is sooo funny! She has the silliest personality and is always laughing or making us laugh. Her latest silliness happened a few days ago. I went in to get her when I heard her gabbing to herself and making her silly noises. I laughed when I saw that she had one arm anchored over her crib's bumper pad and she was peeking out into her room. I crawled over and played peek-a-boo with her. Ever since then, right when I put her in her crib she reaches over and pulls her bumper pad down. Today after I had put Lydia down for a nap, I heard her talking and playing in room. I went in and this is what she was doing. So I finally got it on video, and am glad I did! Silly girl! Too bad you have to listen to me talking, but oh well!

Addi's Pink Poodle Cake

It has always been a tradition in our family for my mom to let us kids choose a picture of what we wanted for our birthday cakes. She would do cut cakes - and they were always huge. Some of mine included Dot from A Bug's Life, Buzz Lightyear, Rainbow Brite, and many other awesome cakes! She always did a great job!

To carry on my mom's tradition, this year for birthday gifts to my nieces and nephews I offered to make their birthday cakes. Angie was the first to take me up on the offer. She had ordered "Pink Poodles in Paris" plates, cups, balloons, etc. for Addi's 2nd birthday party, so I took the picture and made her a Pink Poodle Cake! This is a picture of how I put it together - cutting it out 1st and placing it on a board. Then I frost it and hope it turns out ok!

Two Little Teeth!

I have been trying to get a picture of Lydia's two cute little teeth, but I am never fast enough! So I decided to try video, and it kind of worked - look really close at the very beginning. She is such a funny silly girl!

I was in Target shopping, and on my way out I walked by their Photography Studio. Sitting on the table right out in front were framed pictures of our own little Lydia! So of course I had to take a picture of it (Yes, I carry my camera in the diaper bag!) What a cutie!

(Same day) - We were over at my sister-in-law's house and she was holding Lydia. I laughed when Lydia started sucking her thumb, and I could actually get a picture of it! She often does this if she is tired and doesn't have her binky.

So Cute in Hats!

I have had a set of the knifty knitter looms for a couple years now, and my sister-in-law inspired me to get going and make some hats with them. I have always wanted to, and I have a ton of yarn that needs to be used for something, so I got crazy and made a bunch to match Lydia's outfits. They have been great since it has been such a long, cold winter! I love Lydia in Hats! My sister-in-law also makes and sells them and the cute flowers that you can clip on them (or on headbands) on her blogspot @ http://www.babyfabaccessories.blogspot.com/.

Beauty = Pain = Meany Mom!

So, I feel like the meanest mom! I have wanted to get Lydia's ears pierced for a long time now, but every time I have gone to the mall, she has either been asleep, or I was with Brent (who didn't want to see it happen, but was ok with me doing it by myself) or I just totally chickened out. My sister finally said, lets go! So we went, and I felt so bad the whole time! Does this count as child abuse? The way everyone at the mall was looking at me, I sure felt like it! I'm not sure if it hurt Lydia more that it hurt me, though. She was just ticked off at me for holding her arms and head down, poor thing. I totally relate- I was once a headstrong child and spit in a doctor's face for securing me in a papoose board and giving me a shot in my lip before he stitched me up.

I know everyone has their own opinion about piercing babies' ears, but I agreed with my sister when she said it is better now when she won't remember than when she is older and won't let me put solution on them and twist them like you have to. What's done is done, I guess.

This is the moment I start freaking out and wishing I could change my mind! Look at how red Lydia's face was! She was so mad that I was holding her head. And notice the looks from the lady in the background? Mm-hmm.

Was it worth it? Am I a Meany Mom?

Going...going...going...GONE!...and then back again a different color!

Lydia had the most beautiful curly dark hair when she was born. Brent and I were totally shocked, especially since we are both blonde! She came out looking like a cute little eskimo baby! We loved her curls and I loved doing her hair! All I had to do is get it wet and it would go curly. I didn't want to put any hats or bows on her because it covered her hair. I even put a silk blanket under her so she wouldn't rub any off in the back, and it worked!

Unfortunatley, Lydia started rubbing her hair off with her arm on one side of her head, and then she had cradle cap. I scrubbed her head, and cried when I saw all of her hair in the sponge! She just kept losing it until she was completely bald in spots, and her hair line had receded. So then I started putting all of the big bows and flowers in her hair!

I was so excited when Lydia's hair finally started growing in, but of course it is coming in BLONDE! Then there was the problem of having a couple REALLY long hairs, and mostly short. So I cut it mostly even (in the back she still has her darker curly hair and I can't make myself cut it, even though it is totally blonde on top!)

We are so excited that Lydia's hair is finally growing in thicker! She definitely has her daddy's hair line now! We love her no matter what her hair looks like, of course! I miss the curls, but still have fun putting bows in her hair!
